The Angle Advantage

Sharron Angle has just come out with a new report in regards to her fundraising efforts.  The news is great for Angle, and very worrisome for many Nevada Democrats, and  Democrats across the nation, not to mention Harry Reid himself.  Sharron has just released part of her campaign contributions, for the past three months.  In the past 3 months, Angle has been able to raise an astounding $14.3 million dollars.  Regardless of what your personal opinions are of her, you must admit that raising that much money is quite an accomplishment and says a lot about the attitude towards the Senate Majority leader Harry Reid.  According to Jarrod Agen, a campaign manager for Angle, “Sharron Angle produced one of the most successful single quarters of fundraising in the nation’s history for a U.S. Senate campaign.”

On a side note, the only other candidate to raise close to that amount in recent history was Scott Brown.  In that same amount of time, Scott Brown was able to raise $14.2 million, and that was enough to win him a U.S. Senate seat.  With these funds, Angle has the opportunity to become very successful.  With just a small budget she was able to win the Republican primary, just imagine what she and her campaign managers will be able to do with that amount of cash so close to the election.  While funding is not an issue for Reid, this is just one more thing that he has to worry about. (Health Care, fore closures, unemployment, anti-incumbency, etc.)  Sharron will be able to do massive amounts of adverstising and make her even more competitive in the already very close race.

Below are the results of a Real Clear Politics poll that was posted on October 11, 2010.

While it is still considered to be a toss up, this enormous amount of funding that Angle has just recieved so close to election day maybe enough to give her the clear advantage.  The poll above is troubling news for Harry Reid, because not only has Angle caught back up with Reid, but she has even taken the lead.  According to an analyst for RCP, the news gets even worse for Reid, because without a substantial lead he risks undecided voters turning out against him in mass waves.  And with the current state of the economy, especially Nevada, and no miraculous turn around in sight, he does not have much of a popular platform to run on, in front of the Nevada electorate.

In my opinion, this race is Angle’s for the taking.  As long as she does not have any more media gaffe’s or say something that seems/sounds/or is extreme to mainstream America.  She already has national attention (which I’m sure helped her fundraising efforts), but some of her past comments in no way helped her.  Best advice for Angle, is to stay away from the media until after the election.  Everything is falling into place for a huge Republican year, yet some how each candidate finds a way to blow their chances.

Below are two current ads that Angle is running in Nevada.  In my opinion, they both are useful and probably appealing to Nevadans who are struggling financially.  They focus on the economy, jobs and that seems to be the biggest issues that Americans care about right now.

The only way that I see Angle losing this race is if she blows it for herself.  Reid cannot win it himself, Angle has to help him if he is going to be successful.  With the influx of cash Sharron just got, it is bound to make the race even more interesting and an up-hill battle for the current Senate Majority Leader.  Only time will tell if the Nevada electorate will vote out the most powerful man in the United States Senate.
